We hope you and your loved ones are well and staying safe during this uncertain and unprecedented year.

For the first time since 1995, Las Nuevas Tamaleras will not be part of San Antonio’s Holiday season. We will miss our audiences, their laughter and, most of all, that incredible feeling of a shared cultural experience that we have lived together for the past 26 years!

However, with our priority being the health and safety of our audiences (as well as for our cast, staff and our volunteers), as Producer of Las Nuevas Tamaleras, I had to make the very difficult decision to cancel our 2020 stage production.

2020 has certainly been a life-changing year for all of us. The impact of canceling the stage production of Tamaleras and not sharing the Holidays with you, as we have for so many years, really drove home the ephemeral aspect of the live theater experience. While it cannot be replaced – there is nothing like the exhilarating feeling of joy we share with our audiences – we realize that now is the time to move forward to fulfill our long-time dream of a Tamaleras film project. We truly believe that a film adaptation of Las Nuevas Tamaleras has every possibility of becoming an enduring Latino Christmas story that will be enjoyed by many, many people, every Holiday season for years to come!

We are so grateful that you have supported Las Nuevas Tamaleras by attending Holiday performances for all these years. Through this long journey, we have come to know many of you and your families. We’ve seen your kids grow up, and sadly, some of your suegras, tias, abuelitas and moms pass.  Even though we are saddened by their passing, we are comforted knowing that they got to see themselves reflected in this story as the women who guided us, made tamales for us, and loved us before they left us — because, after all, that’s why the story was written — to honor them and to celebrate the culture & traditions they taught us.  And now ,undoubtedly, many have been lost during this pandemic.

You have made Las Nuevas Tamaleras a San Antonio cultural export! We could not have had such a long-lasting, successful run in San Antonio without you! Now it’s time to share the experience with the rest of the world.

We are asking that you continue your support for this comedy, that was written from the heart, about contemporary Latinas bumbling through the daunting task of making tamales, by giving what you can to help us make the movie version of it a reality!

By supporting this project, you can take pride in knowing that you are helping bring the stories and characters, that reflect our experience as Latinos in a positive and authentic manner, to a much wider audience.

Thank you!
